Elk Meat

Last night I cooked Elk steaks for dinner. Bubba discovered that he likes Elk meat. He renamed it "CHOCOLATE MEAT" because it is a darker meat then turkey dogs and chicken nuggets (which up to this point is the only meats he will eat). He ate the portion I gave him, then asked for more... then before bed he asked for more. AGAIN he requested more today, so I cooked more.

This is a very big deal for the picky eaters at my house.

Sid hated it, but somewhat gracefully ate his one bite (then chugged a whole glass of water).

two sid stories

I had just finished working out the other day and I was ushering the kids into the car. As Sid climbed up, an empty water bottle fell out and rolled deep underneath the Sienna next to us. There was no way to retrieve the bottle. When I told Sid I couldn't reach it, he began to cry and kept saying, "But that is littering! Now I am a litterer!"
It was cute and sad at the same time. I told him thats why we pick up trash that isn't ours, we can all help each other... it sort of calmed him down.

****

Brittany came to visit this last weekend. The night she got here Sid really wanted to show off his bike riding skills for her and Johnse. He wanted his sandles and couldn't find them. I told him where to look and from the other room I heard him exclaim, "Aha! There you are you sexy sandals!"
Uuummmm... I swear he didn't here that from me.

MAGIC WANDS

We watch a cartoon called Adventure Time. In one of the episodes the boy uses a magic wand (like a fairy wand with a little star on the end) to defeat the bad guys.
Since then Sid loves wands. Awhile ago, Sid asked Daddy to get him a wand. So Daddy made him a "manly wand" out of cardboard.
I think it must be inspired from D&D. The boys love them either way.

Trimmed the Tree

All of the branches you see filling the entire horse trailer are from one tree. It was damaging our roof. Luckily my hubbies parents were here to help when we moved. And Grandpa had a chain saw AND a horse trailer to haul it away. We are so grateful.

Originally the boys room was all brown. And I mean ALL, the walls and the ceiling painted all the same brown. It is a small room. it looked like a cave.
I painted it a warm grey. And the ceiling an almost white grey. Then I striped it... and the paint bled under the tape. I had to fix the bleeds with a little paint brush. It was a lot of work, but I am happiest with their room of any.

In the kitchen,
I started by taking down the lovely fruit patterned wallpaper.

Three of four burners worked on the oven and the door was scary close to falling off. They had patched it with Gorilla glue. The microwave made noise and the glass disk inside rotated, but when we tried to cook with it, it didn't cook.

SOMEDAY, we will get a wall mounted microwave. But we are quite happy with this for now.

This is the dining area. before.

This is it after. YAY! First time ever I have put out this much of my MilkGlass. I still have three more pieces. But they are for a cute little shelf I haven't put up in the dining room yet.

Before and After (family room area)

I still haven't worked out the furniture set up. but this is it for now. We painted and deepened the floor color (even though it doesn't show well in the pics). Some day we will hang art and replace the missing base boards with 6" pieces, some day...

no rules baby!

There is a little boy who lives across the street. He is the age that is right between Sid and Bubba. He came over to play today. While I was in the room next to theirs unpacking some boxes and I hear Sid say, "Hey wanna play Zombies? THERE'S NO RULES BABY, you can do anything!" Between the random wit of their father and the fun phrases Sid comes up with, there is never a dull moment around here.

I went to church on Sunday for the last time in my current ward. I loved my callings. I love Primary. We move this Saturday.
I had large spots of paint covering my hands, and some in my hair too. I had dark circles under my eyes.
I really want the boys room finished before we move in. A place that can be put together and unmessy for them. Why did I decide to put stripes on their walls? can anyone tell me why I made MORE work for myself?
I figure the rest of the house will be chaos for a bit. I think they need their room done to help with adjusting to the new house (although it isn't like we haven't moved over a dozen times already- why am I so worried now?). Bubba makes me the most nervous. He is older and more aware then ever before. He absolutely hates change.
Keeping my fingers crossed.

Thank you sweet Hubby for your help, and to my sweet friend Zan.

Herrick Reservoir, Idaho

This was supposed to be Sid's version of a sad face. He was trying so hard to stick out his bottom lip.

This was his version of surprised. Looks a little like confused, with just a hint of constipation.

House

So we got a house. We move in next month. YAY!
It will eventually get a face lift (paint job), but this is it for now :)
I took some pictures of some of the funny aspects of our new house during the home inspection. Wanna see?
This is wallpaper. In the laundry room, hence the clothes on a clothes line.

AND MORE WALLPAPER! Fruit in a kitchen.
This wallpaper matched the kitchen, but was not in the kitchen... and used to cover a cable outlet. At least this bit of wallpaper will be easy to remove.
This is the room they decided never to finish painting (family room)
And this is the room that they... had extra... I'm not sure what they were thinking. (dining room)
There is more but I will save it for the before and after shots.

Today I was told that Sid wanted a new hairstyle. He saw a cartoon character on TV with the haircut and fell in love it.
It's a mullet. Why Sid? Why?!

memorable Sid quotes

Tonight we watched Flushed Away before bed. Sid entertained me more then the movie did:

Sid- Is this a real story?

Me- No, it's pretend

Sid- Oh. Then its fiction mom.

...

This part is non-fiction though, you see?

me- Nnnnno? Why?

Sid- Well cause anyone can get flushed down a toilet.

(later)

Sid- Where are his kids mom?

Me- He doesn't have any yet. He's not married. He needs to find the right girl rat and marry her first.

Sid- I think that one is right. She will be a mom and then her belly gets fat.

(Thanks Sid.)
We made an offer on a house. Someone else did too. Now we just wait and see who made a better offer.

I hate waiting...
and moving.

Finding your own sense of humor

JR- knock, knock... Mom... knock, knock...

mom- Who's there?

...

JR- controller (he was holding a Wii controller in his hand)

mom- controller who?

JR- controller was in a tree! (for some reason all of his knock knock jokes end with in a tree, or on the roof)

mom- oh you are so silly!

JR- You never heard that one before?

mom- no... no definitely not.

He really wants to make people laugh, and does very often, someday it will actually be because his joke was funny.

The puzzling 'happy noise'

Both my children have something they refer to as their "happy noises". This noise of their sounds suspiciously like whining. I honestly can only tell the difference if I can see the look on their face. I can't figure out where they got the idea that this whiny, moaning, chirping thing they do has anything to do with the expression of joy....

Sometimes they copy each other so much that they create a norm with something that might be a social taboo.

I have thought a lot about this 'happy noise'. Where did it come from?
After serious thought, I think it comes from our dog (who btw cries more like a bird then a dog). I think they might think his crying is his 'happy noise'.

I really can't be sure what those little crazies are ever thinking though.

My cute Hubby (the rather happy boy holding the baby) and his siblings.

It's funny to see this pic because Sid and my hubby look alot alike and Sid is super obsessed with babies right now.

Overall I would say we are done having kids, but every now and then I get those baby urges (you know you get them too). Yesterday I turned to Daddy and as I sighed I said, "I want a baby..."
And from behind me, with this squeaky little mimicky sigh, Sid said, "I do too."

Wednesday, February 16, 2011

Yesterday Sid and JR noticed that a toy was broken. They immediately blamed each other, and then screamed that they didn't do it.

mommy- "sometimes toys just break. Maybe this toy wasn't made well, or maybe it was old. It isn't always some ones fault that a toy is broken"

[blank stare and quiet pause]

...

JR- "It was a monster."

Sid- "Yup. Definitely a monster."
