Back log: My little artist

Awhile ago, I came downstairs and found Jake had discovered my moms marker stash. He LOVES to color. Why can't the world be your canvas?
Stifling my laughter, I tried to snap a few shots without giving the impression I was encouraging his new found love of modern art. I think I failed. For once, he enjoyed posing for me.

I am pretty sure he started by attempting to put on lipstick. His use of color is wonderful here, the base of purple with hints of blue speak to me; something like, "Hey Grandma, turn up the heat" comes to mind.

Secret Project

So I began with an exercise ball and a garbage bag.

When we blew the ball up, the bag ripped (mini FAIL). But a new one fit over the ball just fine. Then I taped down all the flappy, bumpy parts.

That's where the newspaper comes in (Claudia, you were partly right. You are a winner- PAPER MACHE!- Just not a pinata). There will be multiple layers and each layer needs 24 hours to dry. I could do a pic of each layer, but in Sid's very wise words, "boring..." So, I will not be posting until the new step is finished.

Until then, you will just have to suffer through more stories and pictures of my family.

Secret project

I am beginning a project for my brother Tim. I am keeping it a surprise for now because it is much more entertaining for you (and me) to keep you guessing. But I will update the progress (and I'm sure my many, many mistakes) with pictures documenting it all as I go. Hopefully it will not be a FAIL on my part. But hey, might as well try.

P.S. No fair cheating and asking Tim or Megan for the scoop! Guessing is fun... isn't it?

The first night I cut lots and lots of news paper strips, and tore up Kraft paper. Hmmmm... what does one do with lots and lots of news paper?

School feild trip to Underwood Farms

Sid's class went to Underwood Farms to pick strawberries. We went ahead of the class and met them at the farm. When Sid got off the bus, Jake ran and tackled him. They rolled around until I was getting too many Mom stink-eyes to ignore.

Weekend Warriors

Over the weekend we made a 'surf sock' for his long board. He made the pattern and I did the sewing. It was snug and turned out great. I need to figure out more projects that benefit him so we can practice team work more often. It was really fun.

Now if I could only get him to believe making a dress pattern for me would benefit him and not be boring at all... oh the possibilities...
